E.S.A.O. First European School of Animal Osteopathy:
The ESAO Ltd: Why? How?
Ancient methods of manual therapy were based on research into the cause of pain, and the principles of relieving pain, through manipulation. Due to the high success rates of these methods, they have consequently been passed down through the centuries to the present day. The development of manual therapy, alongside the birth of osteopathy in the late 19th century, has since grown rapidly and is now a medical profession.
The general understanding of osteopathy is often limited to the mere prevention of back pain. However, the true practice of osteopathy allows one to look at the individual, man or animal, from not simply one, but many angles.
Being a manual therapist using osteopathic technics cannot be improvised: it is not enough just to perform the occasional manipulation to consider yourself a manual therapist. In order to practise, whilst respecting the fundamental principles and ethics of osteopathy, the true practitioner must have a complete knowledge, and a thorough understanding, of the functions and interactions of the different systems, within the whole body.
The ESAO Manager, Jean-Yves Girard, is an equine manual therapist and an experienced rider and horse breader in Normandy, France. For the last fifteen years, he has worked with many international riders (Herve Godignon; show jumping champion of France, Enrique Sarasola; bronze medallist in eventing European championship, Alexandra Lederman; European show jumping champion, Beatriz Ferrer-Salat; bronze medallist in dressage at the Olympic Games of Athens, Eric Levallois, Paul Schockemöl, Eric Navet, Patrice Delaveau ...) He also has worked with top breeders in France, several european studs, and many veterinary clinics throughout Europe.
As fully rounded horseman, he decided to put his experience to the service of equine manual therapy, still as it was in it's infancy, and established in 1993 the first school of Equine Manual Therapy in Europe.
Thus he filled a gap in the profession.
After several years of study and research, both theoretical and practical, but focusing also on the fundamental principles and ethics of this medicine of the future, he provides teaching at the highest level.
In this way, he produced competent and trustworthy professionals who responded rapidly to demand. Throughout the years; the quality of the teaching provided by the ESAO, has continued to improve and its programs to become enriched.
The 200 Equine Manual Therapist, qualified by the ESAO, work today throughout Europe
